2023 Qualifiers for THE PLAYERS and the majors

You just knew that Justin Rose wasn’t going to miss the Masters for the first time in 13 years. With his three-stroke victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday, the Englishman secured an automatic exemption into the first major of the year. He’s a two-time runner-up and has six top 10s at Augusta National. His 11th career victory on the PGA TOUR will lift him from 71st to approximately 35th in the Official World Golf Ranking, so he’s a virtual lock to qualify for The Open Championship when its checkpoint using the OWGR for entry arrives. Of course, he could get into it sooner via another conduit. Qualifying criteria for all of the last three majors remains TBD, but there’s been no change to the narrative that traditional criteria will apply. So, although Rose also projects to be comfortably inside the top 60 of the OWGR when its expected to be used to help fill the field at Los Angeles Country Club in June, he’s expected to be automatically exempt one last time via his victory at Merion in 2013.
